Since 1984, the beach has been the heart and soul of Reef. We believe the beach is where fun and freedom come to life and that there is a deep connection between our well-being and our beaches. We are dedicated to protecting our ocean, preserving our reefs, and continuing to create access to the spirit of the beach.

BEACH CLEANUPS
WATER SAMPLES TESTED
From beach clean-ups to environmental legislation, we’re focused on eliminating pollutants at the source. In 2018, we established the REEF x Surfrider Better Beach Alliance to create and action on plastic pollution initiatives that keep beaches clean and healthy. Being a part of the Better Beach Alliance means protecting beaches around the world, starting with our own backyard- we’re proud to host our local Surfrider chapter’s community water testing lab at Reef’s San Diego HQ.
We are dedicated to global awareness, advancing scientific innovation, and sharing knowledge around the importance coral reefs play on our planet and how we can work together to protect them. We’ve teamed up with Ambassador, Chemist and Professional Surfer Dr. Cliff Kapono to make positive changes for coral protection.
The beach accepts us all equally, and we believe everyone has the right to feel the fun and freedom the beach offers. Through our partnership with Urban Surf 4 Kids, we're introducing foster and at-risk kids to the positive benefits and healing properties of the ocean.

REEFS MAPPED
Sustainability has been part of the REEF DNA since the beginning. REEF founders, Santiago and Fernando Aguerre are surfers and beach lovers, and they did their best to create products with the least impact as possible. Today, over 37 years later, we continue these ideologies with even more emphasis because they are just as relevant now as they were then.
In 2007, REEF's mission was to incorporate renewable, recycled and/or organic materials whenever possible. This was also the time that REEF planted our flag to become 100% PVC Free, something that we can still claim to this day.
100% recycled polyester derived from post-consumer plastic bottles and certified by the global recycling standard.
A percentage of recycled content is in our EVA and rubber compounds. In addition we added a bio-based EVA derived from renewable sugar cane sourced in Brazil to our midsoles.
100% of our leathers and suedes are from tanneries with gold or silver ratings with a majority being ISA lite (low impact to the environment) leathers.
100% cotton, 100% natural jute, genuine cork materials, new 100% wood logo and a unique material mix of PU and natural paper.
