We believe there is a connection between our well-being and our beaches.
When we restore the beach from harmful pollutants we create clean and beautiful places to restore ourselves. Through full transparency of our initiatives and goals, we believe we can continue to improve our programs and allow our supporters to take meaningful action.
In 2018 Reef pledged to focus our efforts towards plastic pollution policy initiatives by founding the Surfrider x Reef “Better Beach Alliance.” Through this program, we promote and collect data from beach cleanups nationally to inform and ultimately influence environmental legislation at the local, statewide and national level.
In addition, we partnered with Urban Surf 4 kids to introduce 650 foster and at-risk kids to the positive benefits and healing properties of the ocean and beach.

Dedicated to making sure our beaches stay clean and healthy, we partnered with Surfrider to create the Better Beach Alliance, which supports three key areas of impact: Beach Cleanups, Lbs of Trash Removed and Volunteers.
While Reef and Surfrider are the founders of the Better Beach Alliance, it’s built for all brands to participate, with the hopes that our industry and communities play an equally big role in enacting meaningful change to our planet.
IN 2019, REEF AND SURFRIDER PLEDGE TO INCREASE PROGRAM IMPACT INTERNATIONALLY:

Since 2016 REEF has been a passionate partner of Urban Surf 4 Kids, sponsoring bringing foster and at-risk children to the beach to experience the therapeutic benefits of surfing, build confidence, and to promote uninhibited fun. Our partnership supports three programs spanning the West and East Coast that collectively benefit a total of 1,000 disadvantaged kids.
Our 2018 program initiatives include:
• 7 Surf therapy camps benefiting a total of 80+ disadvantaged youth
• Establish the Hanai program to pair mentors with local foster kids for one-on-one support
• The Camp Ohana program, which brings disadvantaged youth from inland and out of state communities to the beach to experience the healing properties of the ocean for their very first time.
IN 2019, REEF PLEDGES TO WORK WITH URBAN SURF 4 KIDS TO INTRODUCE 1,000 MORE FOSTER AND AT-RISK YOUTH PARTICIPANTS INTO THE PROGRAM

All single-use plastic in our office has been removed - no plastic water bottles, cups, plates, or utensils.
New energy efficient motion sensor and LED lights throughout the building result in approximately 20% less electricity used to operate at the same capacity.
REEF supports every employee with five days of paid volunteer time per year to pursue any project or passion that gives back to the world.
The beach is a place where you can be unapologetically you. Wouldn’t it be cool if the whole world was like that? We think so too. Through our sponsorship of PFLAG National—the first and largest non-profit organization for LGBTQ+ people, their parents and families, and allies—we're spreading the love and pure freedom we find at the beach to communities around the world. To support gender equality at REEF, we have an employee-initiated resource group dedicated to supporting women and men in and out of the workplace, on everything from career development training to more flexible leave programs for new parents.
And as a member of Camber Outdoors, REEF is committed to advancing gender diversity and creating an inclusive workplace, with a focus on increasing the number of women in leadership roles.
In 2018, we updated all of our product packaging bags to include Eco-One. Eco-One®, by Ecologic, LLC. Eco-One is an organic additive that enhances the biodegradation process through a series of chemical and biological processes when disposed of in a biologically active landfill (appropriate facilities may not be available in all areas). A normal plastic bag could take hundreds of years to breakdown, but with Eco-One, this bag will biodegrade over time, potentially shortening the time span the plastic would have occupied in the landfill space to several years instead of hundreds.
